Lately I wish I wasn't living in Baltimore, because all these great bands are coming out, and being that I live here...it comes off as me just promoting local bands (good or bad). Had I not lived here, it would be much easier to not have you think "oh..he's from baltimore, so he's biased". I promise that is not that case.
When I got an email from Wax & Wane asking me to check out their music I instantly enjoyed it, and it wasn't until I was three songs in that I realized they were even from Baltimore (scouts honor). Wax & Wane describe themselves as "The Jeffrey Dahmer of Folk", which is funny at first, but kind of works (not including the dismembering of people part). They have a dark minimal quality to their music, and a very fresh and interesting vocal delivery throughout their songs keeping a general mystery to every song. And we all know how mysterious and dark that Dahmer guy was.
They have a 5 song LP out called Dessert (of which "Whistler" is from) that you can purchase here, and are about to release a 3 song EP titled Bay (of which "My Friend Gene" is taken). And they will surely be keeping the baltimore music scene florishing, and me looking like a Baltimore music fan-boy.
